Day 1: Arrival in the Imperial Heart (Beijing)

Welcome to Beijing, the grand imperial heart of the nation, a city designed on an epic scale to impress gods and humble men. Your journey begins upon your arrival at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), where our representative will greet you for your private transfer to the hotel. As you travel into the city, you’ll get your first glimpses of its immense scale—a vast tapestry of modern towers and ancient, gray-tiled rooflines.

After settling in, the evening is yours to command. For a truly authentic first taste of the capital, you might take an independent adventure to the lively “Ghost Street” (Guijie, 簋街). As night falls, this entire street comes alive under a canopy of glowing red lanterns, with locals gathering for a quintessential Beijing experience: a bubbling, aromatic Hot Pot (火锅). Alternatively, for a more classic taste of old Beijing, you could seek out a traditional neighborhood eatery for a bowl of rich and savory Zhajiangmian (炸酱面), hand-pulled noodles topped with a dark, flavorful soybean paste—the city’s ultimate comfort food. Your guided Sinovistas adventure will officially commence tomorrow morning.

Day 2: The Empire & The Cosmos (Beijing)

A rich and comprehensive immersion into the capital’s icons begins with a journey to the magnificent Mutianyu Great Wall (慕田峪长城). We will ascend by cable car for breathtaking, panoramic views, and you will have ample time to walk along its beautifully restored ramparts, feeling the ancient stones under your feet as the wall snakes like a dragon’s spine over the misty, green peaks.

Back in the city, the afternoon shifts from earthly defense to cosmic order. We will explore the vast, silent courtyards of the Temple of Heaven (天坛), an architectural masterpiece where emperors once performed sacred rites to ensure a good harvest. The day concludes with a dive into the city’s beating heart, as we navigate the narrow, vibrant Hutong (胡同) alleyways by rickshaw, catching intimate glimpses of daily life in old Beijing. Tonight, we gather for our official Welcome Dinner, where you will taste the city’s most famous culinary art: succulent Peking Duck.

Day 3: The Forbidden City & A Northern Star (Beijing/Datong)

The sheer scale of the Forbidden City (故宫) is something you must feel to understand. This morning, you will walk its immense stone courtyards, following the imperial axis from the grand Outer Courts of state power to the intimate, garden-filled Inner Courts where the emperor and his family lived. You will stand on the Dragon Pavement, touch the crimson walls, and feel the weight of 500 years of absolute rule contained within this city-within-a-city.

In the afternoon, the world shifts. We are propelled by high-speed rail from the magnificent final capital back in time, across the plains to the frontier city of Datong. Upon arrival in this former capital of the Northern Wei Dynasty, your evening is free. This is a perfect opportunity to get your first taste of hearty Shanxi cuisine; your guide can recommend an authentic local spot for a bowl of the region’s famous knife-cut noodles (daoxiao mian, 刀削面), where ribbons of dough are expertly shaved directly into a simmering, savory broth.

Day 4: A Symphony of Faith (Datong)

Today, you confront faith on a scale that defies imagination. We journey to the magnificent Yungang Grottoes (云冈石窟), a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is not a temple; it is an entire cliffside transformed into a five-story-high gallery of devotion. You will stand at the feet of colossal Buddhas, their serene faces carved directly from the sandstone mountain, and explore a series of caves filled with over 51,000 statues, a breathtaking fusion of Chinese and Central Asian art.

After the quiet awe of the grottoes, the modern Datong Museum (大同博物馆) provides the rich historical context for this explosion of art and culture. After a day of profound history, this evening offers a perfect opportunity to experience a classic northern dining tradition: the Datong Copper Hot Pot. Picture a glistening, charcoal-fired copper pot at your table—a craft with over 2,700 years of local history—its central chimney sending up soft wafts of steam as you swish paper-thin slices of tender lamb into the simmering, savory broth.

西安城墙1
Day 5: The Apex of Civilization (Datong/Xi’an)

A morning high-speed train takes you on a journey through the heartland of China to the ancient origin of the empire: Xi’an. This city doesn’t just have history; it is enclosed by it. Your first act is to ascend the Ming Dynasty City Wall (明城墙), a colossal fortification so wide you can cycle its entire 14-kilometer length. You will walk its ancient ramparts, gazing down at the juxtaposition of the old city’s tiled roofs set against the modern skyline.

Afterwards, you will enter the cool, quiet halls of the magnificent Shaanxi History Museum (陕西历史博物馆), one of China’s finest, to see the treasures this wall once protected. You will see priceless Shang dynasty bronzes, vibrant Tang dynasty tomb murals, and artifacts that bring the story of the Silk Road to life. (Note: Should tickets for this celebrated museum be unavailable, the exquisite Xi’an Museum offers a more intimate but equally world-class alternative). Your evening is free to dive into the city’s legendary street food. Let your senses guide you through the bustling Muslim Quarter (回民街) to find tantalizing local specialties like roujiamo (a savory meat-stuffed flatbread) or hand-pulled biangbiang noodles.

Day 6: The Silent Army (Xi’an)

Today is a day of monumental scope and powerful contrasts. You will stand in the silent presence of an empire’s eternal guard at the Terracotta Army (兵马俑). In the vast excavation pits, you will be confronted by a subterranean world where thousands of life-sized warriors, each with a unique face and expression, have stood frozen in battle formation for two millennia. The sheer scale is breathtaking.

From this profound stillness, we pivot to the sacred, gazing upon the elegant Giant Wild Goose Pagoda (大雁塔), a graceful monument to the Buddhist faith and the city’s history as the terminus of the Silk Road. As dusk falls, we plunge you from ancient history into a vibrant, modern spectacle at the Great Tang All Day Mall (大唐不夜城), a dazzling, neon-lit pedestrian street that recreates the energy of the Tang Dynasty. Our day concludes as we treat you to a signature dumpling dinner, a feast of intricately folded and delicious local artistry.

Day 7: Echoes of a Lost Kingdom (Xi’an/Chengdu)

Today we take a fascinating detour from the dynastic path. A high-speed train takes us south from Xi’an, and upon arrival in the region, we journey to the incredible Sanxingdui Museum (三星堆博物馆). Prepare to be mesmerized as you come face-to-face with the haunting bronze masks and golden relics of a mysterious, 3,000-year-old civilization that defies traditional Chinese history. You will see towering bronze spirit trees, alien-like masks with protruding eyes, and delicate golden scepters—haunting evidence of a culture with no written record.

From this ancient mystery, we continue to the city of Chengdu, the relaxed and celebrated culinary capital of China. Upon arrival, your evening is free to ignite your taste buds. This is the perfect opportunity to try your first authentic Sichuan hotpot, a bubbling, communal feast of fiery, numbing broth, or perhaps sample classics like Mapo Tofu and Kung Pao Chicken in the very city where they were perfected.

Our morning in Chengdu is a tale of two legacies. We first step into the romantic epic of the Three Kingdoms at the Wuhou Shrine (武侯祠), a beautiful temple complex dedicated to the memory of the kingdom of Shu’s heroes, most notably the legendary strategist Zhuge Liang.

From the reverence of history, we then transition to the tranquility of living faith at the Wenshu Monastery (文殊院). You’ll wander through its serene, active courtyards, the air thick with the scent of sandalwood incense, finding a moment of peace amidst the quiet devotion of local worshipers at this beautiful Buddhist site. After this immersion, we head to the airport for our flight to Zhengzhou. Upon arrival, your evening is free to experience a distinct shift in the culinary landscape. This is the perfect opportunity to try Zhengzhou’s signature dish: Hui Mian (烩面), a comforting bowl of wide, hand-pulled noodles in a rich, milky lamb broth.

You will see ancient oracle bones—the first Chinese writing—and some of the most magnificent, intricate bronze ritual vessels from the Shang and Zhou dynasties ever unearthed.

We then journey to the legendary Hometown of the Yellow Emperor (皇帝故里) in Xinzheng, a grand complex dedicated to paying tribute to the mythical ancestor of the entire Han Chinese civilization. Afterwards, our private vehicle continues north across the fertile Central Plains to Anyang, the city that served as the final capital of the Shang Dynasty. After arriving, your evening is free to explore some local Henan specialties, known for their savory and slightly sour flavor profiles.

Day 10: The Dawn of Writing (Anyang/Luoyang)

Here, you will see the actual excavation pits where the first oracle bones—animal bones and turtle shells used for divination—were unearthed, marking the birth of the Chinese writing system over 3,000 years ago.

After immersing ourselves in this profound origin story, we visit the magnificent National Museum of Chinese Writing (中国文字博物馆) to see the evolution of this ancient script. Our journey then continues by road to another of China’s great ancient capitals: Luoyang. This evening is yours to explore. Perhaps find a local spot for a hearty bowl of lamb soup, a Luoyang specialty, or revisit the lantern-lit streets of the newly reconstructed Luoyi Ancient City for a magical dinner.

You will stand in awe as you gaze upon a 1.5-kilometer stretch of cliffside, honeycombed with thousands of caves containing over 100,000 Buddhist statues, including the colossal and serene Vairocana Buddha, said to be modeled after Empress Wu Zetian herself.

After viewing the historical treasures of the Luoyang Museum (洛阳博物馆), the day culminates at the beautifully reconstructed Luoyi Ancient City (洛邑古城). Here, you will don the elegant, flowing robes of the Tang Dynasty for a Signature Hanfu Experience. As dusk falls, you will walk the lantern-lit streets and cross stone bridges as a character from a living scroll, a truly magical and photogenic experience. Afterwards, you will step not just into a park, but directly into a masterpiece of Chinese art. The Millennium City Park (清明上河园) is an astonishing, full-scale recreation of China’s most famous scroll painting, Along the River During the Qingming Festival. You will wander its bustling streets, past costumed vendors, lively teahouses, and working watermills, feeling as if you have traveled back a thousand years into the gilded age of the Northern Song. We first visit the imposing Kaifeng Fu (开封府), a meticulous reconstruction of the Northern Song Dynasty’s seat of government, made famous by the legendary Judge Bao. To connect directly with his story, we will also visit the serene Memorial Temple of Lord Bao (包公祠), a quiet complex dedicated to the man immortalized in Chinese culture as the ultimate symbol of impartiality and justice.

From the seat of justice, we move to a center of faith: the historic Daxiangguo Temple (大相国寺). Originally founded in 555 AD, this grand temple has been a major center of Buddhism for centuries and is particularly famous for its history of Buddhist music. Afterwards, we board a high-speed train that whisks us south to our next great capital: Nanjing (南京). Upon arrival, your evening is free. For private tours, we offer complete flexibility to tailor your accommodations to your personal style, from iconic 5-star luxury hotels to unique boutique properties of your choice. Please note that hotel standards in smaller, historic cities may differ from those in major hubs like Beijing.

  3. Transportation
We believe the journey is as important as the destination. Therefore, we select the optimal mode of transport for each connection to ensure maximum comfort and efficiency. Our primary choice for inter-city travel is China’s world-class high-speed rail network, offering a fast, clean, and seamless experience. For routes where air travel is more logical or direct, we utilize convenient internal flights. All local excursions are conducted in your private, modern, air-conditioned vehicle.

Important Notes

1. A Note on Itinerary Flexibility
While we make every effort to adhere to the published itinerary, travel in China can sometimes be unpredictable. Flight schedules may change, and site visiting hours can be altered with little notice. Your guide may occasionally need to adjust the sequence of activities to provide the best possible experience. We thank you in advance for your flexibility and adventurous spirit.

2. Your Digital Experience in China
To ensure a seamless journey, we recommend preparing for China’s unique digital landscape.

  • Payments: China operates on a near-cashless system driven by two main apps: WeChat Pay and Alipay. For convenience and true local immersion, we strongly recommend installing at least one of these apps on your phone and linking your credit card before your departure. Relying solely on cash or foreign credit cards for daily purchases can be very difficult.

  • Connectivity: Access to many Western social media platforms (like Facebook, Instagram, and X) and websites (like Google and YouTube) is restricted in mainland China. Many travelers choose to install a VPN (Virtual Private Network) on their phones and devices before they travel to stay connected as they would at home.

3. Passport Information for Ticketing
To ensure a smooth journey, all high-speed train and internal flight tickets in China are issued under a strict real-name policy. Therefore, we require a clear, scanned copy of the personal details page of your passport no later than 45 days prior to departure. This allows us to secure all necessary tickets on your behalf. Please be aware that any amendments to these details after tickets have been issued may require their re-purchase at your own cost.

4. Packing & Prohibited Items
A detailed packing list will be provided in your pre-departure packet. Please be mindful of security restrictions for train and air travel within China. Items such as pocket knives, aerosols over a certain limit, and large power banks are often prohibited. When in doubt, we recommend packing such items in your checked luggage.

5. Cultural Immersion & Cuisine
This journey is designed to be an authentic cultural immersion. This includes the food. We will dine at a mix of high-quality restaurants and clean, beloved local eateries. While we can cater to most dietary restrictions (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free) with advance notice, please be aware that options may be limited in more remote areas. We encourage you to be open-minded and adventurous with your palate!

6. Tipping
Tipping has become a customary practice for rewarding good service from local guides and drivers in China’s tourism industry. While not mandatory, it is greatly appreciated. A guideline for gratuities will be provided in your pre-departure information packet.

7. Solo Travelers
We warmly welcome solo travelers. You will be paired with another traveler of the same gender for accommodation. If you wish to have your own room, a “Single Supplement” fee applies. Please inquire for the current rate.
