Why this journey? A note from our founder
In China, two forces have always been in dialogue: the brush and the sword, the sage and the emperor. To truly understand our country, you must understand both. This is the journey we created to explore that essential dialogue. The Mandate of Heaven is a curated pilgrimage into the soul of China, tracing the tension between a philosopher’s ethics and an emperor’s ambition. It is more than a tour; it is our thesis on what a journey through China should be.
Signature Experiences on This Path
Walk the sage’s path
We journey to the heart of Confucian thought in the ancient state of Lu. You will ascend the sacred Mount Tai, a pilgrimage site for emperors and scholars alike, before paying your respects at the Temple and Cemetery of Confucius in his hometown of Qufu—the ground zero of East Asian philosophy.Confront the emperor’s will
In Xi’an, you will come face-to-face with the terrifying and magnificent will of the First Emperor. Stand in silence before the life-sized Terracotta Army, the subterranean guard that stands ready for eternity. This is not just history; it is a visceral encounter with the raw power that birthed a unified China.- Cycle the dragon’s ramparts
History in Xi’an is not just under the ground; it surrounds you. We invite you to walk or cycle upon the colossal Ming Dynasty City Wall. From this vantage point, you can survey the ancient capital, feeling the scale of imperial defenses and seeing the modern city pulse within its historic embrace.

Important Notes
1. A Note on Itinerary Flexibility
While we make every effort to adhere to the published itinerary, travel in China can sometimes be unpredictable. Flight schedules may change, and site visiting hours can be altered with little notice. Your guide may occasionally need to adjust the sequence of activities to provide the best possible experience. We thank you in advance for your flexibility and adventurous spirit.
2. Cultural Immersion & Cuisine
This journey is designed to be an authentic cultural immersion. This includes the food. We will dine at a mix of high-quality restaurants and clean, beloved local eateries. While we can cater to most dietary restrictions (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free) with advance notice, please be aware that options may be limited in more remote areas. We encourage you to be open-minded and adventurous with your palate!
3. Tipping
Tipping has become a customary practice for rewarding good service from local guides and drivers in China’s tourism industry. While not mandatory, it is greatly appreciated. A guideline for gratuities will be provided in your pre-departure information packet.
4. Solo Travelers
We warmly welcome solo travelers. You will be paired with another traveler of the same gender for accommodation. If you wish to have your own room, a “Single Supplement” fee applies. Please inquire for the current rate.
